When I was a kid, my friends and I would play hockey in the parking lot during every single recess. As I got older, I started to play baseball on the St. Thomas Cardinals, basketball with my friends on the weekends, and tennis with my brother and dad. Let me tell you about some of my favourite sports.
Hockey is my first love. Although I never actually played it on ice, my friends and I would play at school and on weekends in empty parking lots and even on dead-end streets. We always had to look out for cars when they would come though. I always enjoyed playing goalie and can remember making some incredible saves. My favourite NHL team is the Montréal Canadiens. Unfortunately, they haven’t won the championship since 1993.
My second favourite sport is baseball. I grew up playing catch with my brother all the time and eventually, we played on the same little league team even though I’m two years younger. When I was in middle school our team won the local championship. As I grew older I started to play on different teams than my brother and even won a spot as an outfielder on the local travelling team. This meant that I could travel to other cities to play against better teams. My favourite MLB team is the Toronto Blue Jay, but they also haven’t won the title since 1993.
My third favourite sport is basketball, but I definitely wouldn’t consider myself a great player. I always shied away from playing in games or on teams in high school. I tend to prefer just shooting around or playing games like 21 and HORSE. In the NBA, I cheer for the Toronto Raptors who won their first championship in 2018-2019, and my favourite player of all time is Vince Carter (Half man, Half AMAZING!).
My brother, father, mother, and I played quite frequently when we were all younger. A huge turning point for me was when I finally started to beat my older brother consistently. My favourite player is Roger Federer because he plays with an amazing amount of grace, almost never has a bad attitude, and plays at a quick pace.
In the past few years, I’ve started to watch Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) a lot more. I really got into it when a famous Canadian fighter named Georges St.-Pierre was cleaning out the welterweight division.
